The Most Popular Dog Breeds of the Year Are…
It’s not just you: There are way more French bulldogs trotting around these days. For the first time since the 1910s, the little guys have cracked the top 10 most popular dog breeds in America.
The American Kennel Club has released the 10 most popular breeds from 2014, and most of the list is pretty predictable. For the 24th consecutive year, the Labrador retriever is still top dog. But the trendy French bulldog made the top list, edging out the dachshund, which was number 10 in 2013 and number 11 last year. The English bulldog is more popular than ever, too, making fourth place for the first time ever.
According to the Associated Press, a few up-and-coming dog breeds are right on its tail. In a 10-year span, the Havanese went from 52nd to 25th place, the black and tan coonhound went from 140th to 120th, and the border collie jumped from 60th to 39th. And two relatively new breeds, the wirehaired pointing griffon and the Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever, both are quickly rising in popularity.
Here’s the full list of the most popular breeds of 2014:
1. Labrador retriever
2. German shepherd
3. Golden retriever
6. Yorkshire terrier
9. French bulldog
